Startups to Unicorns
18% of all startups in India are into deep tech such as AI, ML, AR/VR, Blockchain, IoT and so on. Around 1600 deep tech startups came up just between 2014-2019 and are growing at a CAGR of 40%. The availability of large volumes of data in the past few years and improvement in computing power of devices are responsible for growth of deep tech startups in India. It is the right time to create, innovate, and leverage these technologies for unprecedented customer experience and business growth. There is also a big swing in the startup space as they are centering on business-to-business model. Solutions based on deep tech solve real-life problems and challenges when it comes to food, energy, water, and national security. In Addition, Deep tech companies can offer exciting job opportunities to engineers and help in keeping the talent within our shores. It is crucial for Governments, large corporates and established entrepreneurs should step in to provide capital, mentorship, and guidance to promising start-ups. This session would analyze the current state of the Indian startup ecosystem and look up three aspects: to provide an understanding of the growth drivers and motivations of Indian startup founders; identify challenges facing these startups; and outline the pillars in place that support them especially how Policymakers and investors should support bringing more people to become entrepreneurs, and also sustain towards scaling their businesses, given deep tech startups go through a different evolution cycle than a typical B2B or B2C company.

IT-ITeS – Driving Business Innovation through Technologies
The IT-ITeS sector is the major economic driver of the state for over a couple of decade and employs over 7,00,000 people. Chennai is also the third-largest exporter of electronic hardware in the country with exports revenues in 2017-18 accounting for US $1.27 billion. (Anuj Puri, Anarock ). Businesses having a technology-first approach have found opportunities in the confluence of IT & the physical operational world, largely in sectors such as Fintech, Manutech etc. Sessions around the how IT/OT convergence is redefining mobility and Blockchains driving Crypto-currency & Non Fungible Tokens, are some elements that have been planned and panelists there would share intelligent insigghts around those technologies.
However, It is no longer enough to be front-runner in adoption of IT in the state; we must find its place in the global race to achieve tech leadership. There are immense synergies and prospects to position TN as a hub of Global Captive Centres (GCC) and also ERS (Engineering, R & D Services) as key anchors and attract global companies to partner with the Government of Tamil Nadu. Technology & MSME – Avenue for Sustained Growth
Technological obsolescence and sub-optimal scale are two critically distinguishing features of Indian MSMEs for Majority of India’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), that employ over 120 million people and contribute significantly to the GDP.
Small businesses don't necessarily have the resources to make large investments in technology but the disruption has made them realise how adopting to digital can help them take advantage of opportunities in today's changing environment. Many of them are looking to reaping benefits of digitalization/ technology adoption, and leverage newer technologies like cloud computing, IoT, consumer analytics. The first session panel would largely dwells into major challenges for policymakers and large industries towards the modernization of the MSME sector remains around how to accelerate technological upgradation and modernization of more and more MSMEs, and how they can support.
Moreover, with digital technology adoption, data has value to hackers because it has value to a business, no matter what the size of the organisation. In fact, SMEs are easier pickings for hackers due to their lack of cybersecurity. As this can jeopardise a whole business structure, we deliberate how every SME need to make protecting their network a top priority.

India’s current position in the global economy offers opportunities to strengthen itself even in a more fragmented global economy, and to further strengthen this position, it could be important to address many domestic distortions, and also make a renewed policy-focus around the make-in-India initiative, to realize the coming-of-age of India’s manufacturing potential. How can Indian capitalize on these advantages and opportunities?
